Time for Lobbying Transparency |

This year, hundreds of new MPs will be elected to Parliament. Many of the new crop of Parliamentary candidates are currently working as lobbyists – some of whom haven’t been completely transparent with voters about their links to the influence industry.
If our prospective MPs are helping powerful companies get privileged access to key politicians in the run up to the election, we have a right to know who they are lobbying for and which policies or contracts are being discussed. Lobbying firms hire these parliamentary hopefuls to both open the door to politics now and to secure a direct line to any future government.
After the expenses scandal, we deserve a new type of politics – it’s vital that prospective MPs are fully transparent about their links to lobbying.
The Alliance for Lobbying Transparency has teamed up with 38 Degrees – a 100,000-strong, people-powered movement – to campaign for lobbying transparency. We are asking Parliamentary candidates, whether they’re involved in lobbying or not, to pledge their support for new transparency rules for lobbyists.
