George Eustice, David Cameron’s former press secretary, is the Conservative candidate in the three-way marginal seat of Camborne and Redruth in Cornwall.

George hasn’t been completely transparent with voters about his links to lobbying.

George works for London-based PR and lobbying consultancy Portland PR, but there is no mention of this job on his campaign website.

George doesn’t think the fact that he is helping companies influence politics is relevant to voters: “You mention what you think is important” he says: “There are lots of things that you don’t mention.”

Instead George devotes 2/5ths of his biography to describing in detail his parents’ Cornish farm, where he worked nearly a decade ago. It “consists of a farm shop providing quality local produce and a popular restaurant… runs many school visits… has a small herd of South Devon cattle and also the country's oldest herd of British Lop pigs - a rare breed native to Cornwall.”

George is campaigning for the regeneration of town centres. He blogs in February: “We have our town centre regeneration summit in less than two weeks and I want to try to engage as many local shop keepers as possible, so my aim is to get around every shop in the constituency.”

Portland lobbies for, among others, McDonald's and supermarket giants Tesco and Morrisons, although George says he hasn’t worked on either supermarket account. Portland's Planning Advocacy team, for example, helps Tesco execute its communications plans in support of major applications for new stores and extensions.
